Replacement of the Cab Recirculation Air Filter

The cab recirculation air filter must be replaced every six months, regardless of mileage, to permit proper operation of the HVAC system. The filter can be accessed by removing the dash lower console. See Fig..

    Important: When replacing the air filter, use only a Freightliner-approved air filter.

    Notice: If the recirculation air filter is not replaced every six months, damage to the heater and air conditioner components could occur. The HVAC system should not be operated without the recirculation air filter installed.

  1. Park the vehicle on a level surface. Apply the parking brakes and chock the rear tires.
  2. Remove the dash lower console. The lower console is secured by nine Torx screws; see Fig..
  3. Remove the retainer that holds the recirculation air filter in place; see Fig..

  4. Remove and discard the recirculation air filter.
  5. Install a new recirculation air filter in the retainer.
  6. Install the retainer in the HVAC assembly; see Fig..
  7. Install the dash lower console. Tighten the Torx screws 24 to 30 lbf·in (270 to 340 N·cm). See Fig..
