Detroit Assurance Attention Assist
Note: This feature was made available on a very limited number of vehicles and as of 2022 is no longer an option.
General Information
If equipped, the attention assist feature issues a warning tone and suggests taking a break when it detects behavior typical of fatigued driver.
The attention assist warning is shown regardless of legally prescribed driving and rest periods.
The windshield must be kept clean and unobstructed in the area of the camera to ensure that attention assist works properly.
Safety Information
Important: Attention assist is only an aid. It cannot always detect fatigue or lapses in concentration reliably or in time. Attention assist is not a substitute for a well-rested and attentive driver.
As attention assist monitors lane position, it may not operate as designed when the lane position is unclear due to conditions that restrict the multipurpose camera view, low visibility, poor or obscured lane makings, or winding roads.
If there is a significant change in load when the ignition is on, restart the vehicle for attention assist to be available without any restrictions.
Attention assist may also be restricted and a warnings may not occur or may be delayed if the driver is predominantly driving slower than 37 mph (60 km/h);
Function and Activation Conditions
Attention assist is active at speeds above approximately 37 mph (60 km/h).
Attention assist assesses the driver's level of fatigue or lapses in concentration by taking the following into account:
-
driving characteristics, such as remaining in the lane and active steering
-
trip related details such as the length of the drive
-
use of turn signals
-
use of the engine brake switch
-
uncharacteristic changes in the accelerator pedal position
If attention assist detects typical indicators of fatigue or increasing lapses in concentration on the part of the driver a warning tone sounds and a caution window, shown in Fig. and Fig. appears on the driver display. If ALA has been deactivated, it is automatically reactivated.
If the driver doesn't take a break when prompted, the soonest attention assist can issue another warning is 15 minutes.
When the engine is turned off or the vehicle is stationary for some time, attention assist resets its detection sequence.
Activating or Deactivating
Attention assist may be deactivated, or activated, in the ICUC instrument panel under 'Drive Time Systems' > 'Safety System Settings' > 'Attention Assist.'
