  1. Set the vehicle and trailer parking brakes.
  2. Warning: If a trailer or combination vehicle is not equipped with spring parking brakes, do not park it by pulling out only the trailer air supply valve knob. This would apply only the trailer service brakes. If air were to bleed from the trailer brake system, the trailer brakes would release, possibly causing an unattended runaway vehicle.

  3. Chock the front and rear tires of the trailer.
  4. Disconnect the trailer air and electrical lines. Plug the air lines to keep them free of dirt.
  5. Take the weight of the trailer drawbar off the pintle hook.
  6. Push the latch lock towards the mounting plate as far as possible. Then, while holding the latch lock in this position, pull the top of the latch as far as possible toward the pintle hook.
  7. While holding the latch in place, release the latch lock.
  8. Slowly drive the vehicle away from the trailer.
