Draining of the Axle

wv mm 35.04
  1. Park the vehicle on a level surface, put the transmission in neutral, shut down the motor, and set the parking brake. Chock the tires.
  2. Note:  Drain the drive axle lubricant at normal operating temperature. The lubricant will run freely and minimize the time necessary to fully drain the axle; this ensures the axle is flushed.

  3. Place a drain pan under the axle, then remove the drain plug from the bottom of the drive axle housing to allow the lubricant to drain. See Fig..

  4. After the initial lubricant change, inspect the drain plug for large amounts of metal particles. Metal particles may be a sign of damage or extreme wear in the axle. Clean and install the drain plug after the axle has completely drained.
Dispose the lubricant properly, following appropriate environmental rules and regulations.
