Fastening the Seat Belt


Note: Wear three-point seat belts only as described below. Three-point seat belts are designed to be worn by one person at a time. In case of an accident or sudden stop, personal injury or death could result from misuse.

Fasten the seat belts before driving. Fastening a three-point seat belt while driving creates a hazard.

  1. If needed, adjust the seat to achieve the proper driving position.
  2. Slowly pull the link end of the seat belt out of the retractor and pull it across your lap (from outboard to inboard) far enough to engage the buckle. If the retractor locks too soon, allow the belt to retract slightly, then slowly pull it out again. See Fig..

  3. Fasten the seat belt by pushing the latch into the buckle. Listen for an audible click.
  4. Tug on the seat belt to make sure it is securely fastened. If the buckle unlatches, repeat this step. If the problem continues, replace the seat belt.
  5. Snug the seat belt to your waist.
  6. If equipped with a seat belt height adjuster, adjust it to position the shoulder strap diagonally across your chest. See Fig..The shoulder strap must be centered on your shoulder and chest, away from your face and neck as as shown, see Fig..

    • Pinch the top and bottom height adjuster levers together, then move the shoulder loop to a comfortable height.

    • Correct—Belt is centered on your shoulder and chest, away from your face and neck.

    • Wrong—Belt must not rub against your face or neck.

    • Wrong—Belt must not hang off your shoulder.

    Warning: Before activating a Komfort Latch, make sure the amount of slack in the shoulder strap is set as described. Excess slack in the shoulder strap reduces the effectiveness of the seat belt, and increases the risk of injury or death in an accident.
    1. The Komfort Latch allows a small amount of slack into the seat belt, resulting in a more comfortable ride.
      To use the Komfort Latch, open the cover as as shown, see Fig.Pull on the shoulder strap to create 1 inch (2.5 cm) of space between your chest and the strap as as shown, see Fig.. Allow no more than 1 inch (2.5 cm) of slack as more slack can significantly reduce the seat belt effectiveness. While holding the belt slack, press the Komfort Latch lever up to lock it, as as shown, see Fig..

      • Create no more than 1 inch (2.5 cm) of space between your chest and the strap.
