Lubrication of the Eaton Fuller Clutch Release Bearing

sd mm 25.01.001

If the vehicle is not equipped with a maintenance-free sealed clutch release bearing, lubricate the bearing as follows:

  1. Park the vehicle on a level surface. Apply the parking brakes, and chock the rear tires.
  2. Remove the clutch inspection plate.
  3. Note: For lubricating the release bearing, Eaton Fuller recommends a lithium-base grease that can operate up to at least 325°F (163·C) and meets the NLGI grade two or three specification.

  4. Wipe the dirt away from the grease fitting. See Fig.. Use a low-pressure-type grease gun equipped with the recommended grease, and lubricate the bearing until excess grease purges from the rear of the release bearing (toward the transmission).

Note: Some clutch release bearings are equipped with a lubrication extension that protrudes from the clutch housing.

  5. Notice: Do not over-lubricate the clutch release bearing. Over-lubrication could contaminate the clutch internally, causing clutch slippage and premature failure. Do not use chassis grease or multipurpose lubricants.

  6. Wipe off excess grease and apply it to both the yoke finger and sleeve bushing contact points. See Fig..
