  1. With the parking brake engaged and/or the brake pedal pressed down, select neutral (N) by pressing in the safety release and moving the selector switch to the center position. See Fig..

    Note: To upshift manually, pull the lever up (towards you). To downshift manually, push the lever down (away from you).

  2. With the transmission in neutral, start the engine. Allow the air pressure to build to 100 psi (689 kPa) to ensure clutch engagement before moving the vehicle.
  3. With air pressure built up, select drive (D) by pressing in the safety release and moving the selector switch downward to the position below neutral. Release the parking brake and/or pedal.
  4. Note: When D is selected, the transmission controller starts up in the default starting gear.

  5. Press down on the accelerator pedal to allow the vehicle to move forward. The vehicle will not move until the pedal is depressed.
  6. Warning: A vehicle equipped with the FreedomLine fully-automated transmission can roll backwards when stopped on a hill or grade, or when the vehicle is starting from a stop on a hill or grade. This can result in serious personal injury or property damage.

  7. To stop on a hill or grade , press and hold the brake pedal to keep the vehicle from moving.
  8. To start from a full stop on hill or grade , quickly move your foot from the brake pedal and press firmly on the accelerator pedal.
