Axle Oil Temperature Gauge, Rear
Optional instruments are not found on every vehicle. They are stand-alones, not driven by the instrument cluster, and are usually located on the auxiliary dash panel. They are listed here in alphabetical order, to make the information easier to find.
Notice: A sudden increase in oil temperature that is not caused by a load increase may indicate mechanical failure. Bring the vehicle to a safe stop and investigate the cause to prevent further damage. Do not operate the vehicle until the cause has been determined and corrected.
During normal operation, the optional rear axle oil temperature gauge should read between 160 and 220°F (71 and 104°C) for Detroit and Meritor drive axles. See Fig..
Under heavy loads, such as when climbing steep grades, temperatures up to a maximum of 250°F (121°C) are not unusual.
