Replacement of the Key Fob Battery

You will need a flat surface, a CR2032 replacement button battery, and to replace the key fob battery, you will need a 5/32 inch (4mm) flat screwdriver or similar tool.
- Remove the key fob from the key ring.
- Hold the key fob with the opening for the key ring upwards, and carefully insert the flat end of the screwdriver on one side of key fob as shown in Fig.. Twist the end of the screwdriver to pry the two halves apart.
- Move the end of the screwdriver to the other side of the top of the key fob and pry that side apart.
- Using your fingers, separate the two pieces of the key fob.
- To remove the battery, lay the flat side of the key fob
with the battery on a flat surface, and insert the end of the screwdriver
underneath the top of the battery to gently lift it out. See Fig..Dispose of the used battery safely according to local regulations.
- Insert the new battery with the + side down and the blank
side up as shown in Fig..Insert the bottom edge of the battery toward the bottom of the key fob, and press to open the metal cradle to create a space for the battery to slip into place.
- Align the hooked tag on the bottom edge of the circuit
board side of the key fob with the matching recess on the other side
of the key fob as shown in Fig.. Press the
two sides of the key fob together working from the bottom toward the
top.The two halves may need some adjustment to snap into place.
- Verify the key fob is completely closed as shown in Fig..
- Attach the key fob to the key ring.
Important: If the key fob will not close completely and securely, open it and try again. If it is not possible to securely close the key fob, stop using it. An unsecured button battery is hazardous. Safely dispose of the defective battery and key fob according to local regulations and order a new key fob at an authorised Western Star dealership.
