Pre-Cleaner Maintenance
If the vehicle often works in dusty conditions, or experiences shorter than expected filter life, inspect the cleaners for proper installation and internal dirt build-up that could have an effect on their dirt removal efficiency.
If the vehicle application exposes it to large, light weight, debris that could pass over the hood air intake passages, and the driver reports significant changes in the intake air restriction gauge readings, or loss of power. Inspect for possible clogging at the cleaner inlet passages, especially if the engine is running at an elevated idle. If the condition still exists, it may be resolvable by using a compressed air nozzle to back-blow from inside the separator, using the drain valves as an access to inject the air. Removal of the outside air intake grate may be required if the debris is not expelled from the cavity. See Fig. for Pre-Cleaner location in the truck.
