NEWAY ADZ V-Rod Torque Check

49X mm 32.05.001

Notice: Failure to retighten the V-rod joint could result in vehicle damage.

Check the bolts and nuts at the pivot connections, frame crossmember connections, V-rod connections, and axle connections after 5,000 miles (8000 km) or 100 hours of service. See Fig. for a top view of the V-rod assembly.

Important: After tightening V-rod nuts, monitor these joints daily until no change occurs at any joint that required retightening. Establish a recheck interval equivalent to findings of this monitoring.

  1. Park the vehicle on a level surface, shut down the engine and set the parking brake. Chock the tires
  2. Check the V-rod torque. See Table. for torque specifications. Set a click-type torque wrench to the mid-point torque value for the fastener being checked. Turn the wrench in a clockwise motion (looking up) until the torque wrench clicks, then release pressure on the torque wrench, and turn the wrench again until it clicks. If the nut, shown in Fig. and Fig., turns on the second application, the bolt is stretching and must be replaced. See  of the Western Star 47X and 49X Workshop Manual for bolt replacement procedures.
