Replacement of the Cab Fresh Air Filter, Water-Valve Controlled

The cab fresh air filter must be replaced every six months, regardless of mileage, to permit proper operation of the HVAC system.

Caution: If the fresh air filter is not replaced every six months, damage to the heater and air conditioner components could occur. The HVAC system should not be operated without the fresh air filter installed.

Important: When replacing the air filter, use only a Freightliner-approved air filter.

  1. Park the vehicle on a level surface. Apply the parking brakes and chock the rear tires.
  2. Remove the two Torx® screws that secure the HVAC air filter cover to the air intake plenum. See Fig..

  3. Pivot the front end of the cover out to remove the cover, and pull the air filter out of the air intake plenum.
  4. Install a new air filter.
    1. Slide a new air filter into the air intake plenum.

      Note: When installing the HVAC air filter, be sure that it is oriented properly. The filter label has an arrow that indicates the air flow direction. See Fig..

      1. Install the air filter cover on the plenum and install the two Torx screws.

    2. Remove the chocks from the tires.
