High-Voltage Battery State-of-Health and Deactivation Notifications
As the high-voltage batteries near end-of-life, there are a series of three escalating pop-up messages that indicate the state of battery health. There are also two telltales associated with the caution and warning pop-ups described below, that illuminate during the respective battery state-of-health scenarios.
Note: If the vehicle’s software is not up-to-date, the pop-ups may not appear on the driver display screen. The telltales illuminate regardless of vehicle software version.
The first notice, as shown in Fig. , appears on the driver display screen 44 to 31 days before battery replacement is needed. When this pop-up appears, schedule battery replacement service with an authorized Freightliner dealer. To acknowledge the notice, select 'OK.'
There is no telltale associated with this notice.
The second caution message, as shown in Fig. , appears on the driver display screen every day for 30 calendar days until the truck disables itself. The caution screen shows the number of days remaining until shutdown and continues to count down. If not already completed, schedule battery replacement service with an authorized Freightliner dealer as soon as possible. To acknowledge the notice, select 'OK.'
The telltale associated with this pop-up is the same amber telltale named ‘High-Voltage Battery Problem,’ shown in the Table .
The third and final warning, as shown in Fig. , appears if battery service is not completed. If the keyswitch is turned OFF for more than one hour, the battery state of health will be too low for high voltage to be turned back ON, making the vehicle undrivable. If this happens, the vehicle will need to be towed to a service center for battery replacement. This warning disappears when the battery is replaced.
The telltale associated with this pop-up is the same red telltale named ‘High-Voltage Battery Failure,’ shown in the Table . This telltale also illuminates when the vehicle detects a thermal event in a high-voltage battery. If the telltale is active and the pop-up below (titled ‘HV Battery Disabled Service Required’) does NOT appear, out of an abundance of caution, bring the vehicle to a safe stop, apply the park brake, turn the keyswitch to off, and exit the cab within the next five minutes.
