Electronic Braking System Operation
Gen5Cas DM Ch 13.02.02
Compared to a traditional pneumatic braking system, which relies on the pressure given by the brake pedal, the EBS registers a deceleration ‘request.’ A deceleration request is detected by the amount the brake pedal is pressed, regardless of vehicle and trailer weight. ‘Heavy braking’ is when the brake pedal is pressed almost all the way down, and may engage ABS. ‘Light braking’ is when the brake pedal is pressed only a small portion of pedal travel.
With the EBS system, light braking is likely to feel different than traditional brake systems because it gives more consistent brake performance with various payloads.
