Mirror Camera Safety Features and Common Issues
Mirror Camera Safety Features
Important: The Mirror Camera System (MCS) provides a wider and more detailed view of the sides of the vehicle. The MCS is not a replacement for an alert and conscientious driver.
Warning: When accessing the outside of the cab to clean the door's windows or windshield, do not grab or hold onto the mirror camera arms. This feature is not designed as a steadying device or handhold. The mirror camera arms are not designed to bear weight.
Misuse of the mirror camera arms may result in injury to the operator or damage to the truck.
Note: Functional safety faults result in the MCS display screens turning off. If the display goes dark, a fault has occurred.
The mirror camera display displays telltales related to the Side Guard Assist 2 and Active Side Guard Assist 2 systems. For more information on these telltales, see the chapter on Detroit Assurance, in the Side Guard Assist 2 and Active Side Guard Assist 2 section.
Common MCS Issues
-
The view in the display reverted after it was changed. To save a different field of view (FOV), you must use the ‘Base View’ function in the cluster to change and save a new FOV.
Without this function, panning the FOV manually is temporary and resets to the default FOV when the key is cycled or the vehicle exceeds 18 mph (29 km/h).
-
The trailer and situational awareness lines on the display disappeared. The End of Trailer Line (EOTL) must be confirmed by the driver at each key cycle. This is done to ensure the driver acknowledges the length of trailer. If the vehicle exceeds 8 mph (13 km/h) without confirming the EOTL, the situational awareness lines are not shown. To reenable this function, bring the vehicle to a stop and set the parking brake. Then use the ICU to access the ‘End of Trailer Line’ function.
-
The display colors are incorrect. The display is set to night mode during daytime hours. Pressing the auto/day/night button on the door switch panel changes the mode to day and then to auto, if desired.
-
The main mirrors cannot be adjusted. Press the MCS mode button to turn off the LED, then use the mirror selection and direction button as normal.
