Active Brake Assist 6 (ABA6) Overview
Important: The windshield must be clean, unobstructed, and without damage for proper operation of the multipurpose camera. No objects or attachments should be mounted in front of the forward radar and the radar covering should be free of paint, stickers, mud, ice, or snow.
ABA is active when the vehicle is on.
ABA uses fused camera and radar signals for improved object recognition, enabling it, in some cases, to recognize potential hazardous situations faster than a driver. If the camera cannot positively identify an object, radar signals alone are used. If the camera or radar become unplugged, disabled, or go into a fault mode, ABA is disabled.
ABA tracks both moving and stationary objects in the vehicle's path and, if necessary, engages in a cascade of actions in reaction to those objects, alerting the driver through:
-
visual and auditory warnings;
-
then partial braking;
-
then full or emergency braking.
In addition to moving and braking vehicles, ABA has the capacity to recognize and engage in emergency braking for moving and stationary pedestrians (at speeds up to 37 mph [60 k/ph]), parked vehicles, and stopped traffic.
However, the system may not detect pedestrians or vehicles in every situation. ABA is not a substitute for cautious driving.
