Inspection of the Radar Covers, Mirror Cameras, and Mirror Camera System

Gen5Cas DM Ch 23.02.07
  1. Inspect the four radar covers — the two on the front of the vehicle, near the headlights, and the two on either side of the cab, between the driver- and passenger-side steps and wheel wells.
    1. If there is dirt or debris on the radar covers, wipe the debris away with water and a microfiber cloth.
  2. Warning: Do NOT use the mirror camera arms as a handhold when inspecting or cleaning the mirror cameras. The mirror camera arms are designed to breakaway in case of impact and are not meant to bear weight. Using the mirror camera arms as a handhold may result in injury or damage to the vehicle.

  3. Inspect the mirror cameras, by examining the mirror camera lenses and the visual display.
Important: Maintain three points of contact with the vehicle when cleaning the camera at all times. Do not use the mirror camera arm or the a-pillar turning vane as a handhold.
    1. If the mirror cameras are dirty, clean them.
  4. Inspect the mirror camera display screens.
    1. Ensure nothing is blocking the sensors on the bottom of the mirror camera display screens. These sensors detect cab brightness and adjust mirror camera display screen brightness.
  5. Notice: The EOTL must be confirmed or adjusted at each key cycle. The MCS loads the last saved EOTL, and is ready to set or adjust when the black line appears between the two fields of view on the MCS display.

Note: If resetting the EOTL is unnecessary (i.e. the same trailer is being pulled at the next key cycle), skip to the final substep below.

Note: If the EOTL is not set before driving away, all lines disappear. The EOTL and situational awareness lines can be reset or reconfirmed by keying off for about 2 minutes and keying back on again, or through the ICU under the ‘End of Trailer Line’ selection on the ‘Mirror Camera’ system menu.

  6. Set and confirm the End of Trailer Line (EOTL) on the Mirror Camera System (MCS).
    1. Place an item (water bottle, binder, etc.) on the ground at the end of the trailer on the driver’s side.
    2. Once the black line appears between the two fields of view on the MCS display, (this black line will say to set the end of trailer line and to press the Mirror Camera System button), select the driver-side mirror camera using the Door Switch Panel (DSP).
    3. Set the red bar using the up/down arrows on the DSP to align with the object. See Fig.
    4. Repeat the previous three steps for the passenger side.
    5. Press the MCS mode button to confirm the EOTL placement. Once confirmed, the yellow and green situational awareness lines appear.
