Side Guard Assist 2 (SGA2) and Active Side Guard Assist (ASGA), General Information

Gen5Cas Dm Ch 10.08.01

SGA2 assists on the passenger- and driver-side of the vehicle while driving, including passenger-side turns and lane changes. SGA2 monitors the area on both sides of the vehicle and trailer using four short range radar sensors. The radar sensors are mounted close to the rear of the passenger footsteps and on the front of the vehicle by the headlights. The optional enhancement, ASGA, enables the brakes to automatically activate in low-speed passenger-side turns. For more information on the SGA2 interactions in lane changes, please see the section on Active Lane Assist 2 - Lane Change Assist.

Important: SGA2 is designed for use with one trailer attached to the tractor. The optional enhancement, ASGA, reacts only to moving objects within SGA2's sensor monitoring area.

SGA2 detects if a trailer is attached to the tractor, but it cannot detect whether multiple trailers are attached. If used with more than one trailer, SGA2 only considers vehicles and other road users in the range of the tractor and the first trailer. False-positive indications and warnings may occur with multiple trailers.

Note: SGA2 and its enhancement, ASGA, are not currently designed to work with non-ABS trailers or on trucks with steer lift axles.

A triangular, amber warning lamp is integrated in the upper corners of the A-pillar, or in the upper corners of the mirror camera display. For more information about the mirror camera display, see the chapter on Driver Assistance Features. This lamp illuminates to inform the driver that an object is detected in the monitored area. An additional warning tone sounds and the lamp changes to red if there is a risk of collision.

Note: The mirror camera display and SGA2 warning triangle integration does not show any information if there is not an object present.

The ASGA engages at speeds less than 12 mph (20 km/h). If SGA2 detects a critical moving object in the sensor monitoring area along the side of the tractor during a passenger-side turn, the ASGA automatically applies the brakes.
