Side Guard Assist 2 (SGA2) and Active Side Guard Assist (ASGA) Safety Information
Warning: The Detroit Assurance Collision Mitigation System is intended solely as an aid for an alert and conscientious professional driver. It is not intended to be relied upon to operate a vehicle. Use the system in conjunction with rearview mirrors and other instruments to safely operate the vehicle.
The Detroit Assurance Collision Mitigation System is not a substitute for safe, normal driving procedures, nor will it compensate for any driver impairment such as drugs, alcohol, fatigue, distraction or inattention.
Operate a vehicle equipped with Detroit Assurance Collision Mitigation System as if the vehicle were not equipped with a collision mitigation system.
Failure to drive safely and use the system properly could result in personal injury and/or death and severe property damage.
SGA2 and ASGA are only aids for a conscientious driver. These guidelines serve as reminders for situations in which the driver must be especially alert and attentive. ASGA relies on SGA2, if SGA2 is impaired, ASGA cannot provide notifications or assist during low speed, passenger-side turns when a critical object is present.
Before driving the vehicle, ensure the side radar sensor covers are free from dirt, ice, or slush. If the sensors get dirty while driving, the telltale on the driver display may change to a grey triangle with a slash indicating SGA2 is not available. In this case, pull off to a safe location to clean the side radar sensor covers. The side radar sensors must be free of paint or other coverings such as stickers.
Warning: If detection is impaired, SGA2 may issue a warning too late or not at all. The following conditions can restrict detection of obstacles:
-
dirty, icy, or obscured sensors
-
very wide lanes
-
vehicles not driving in the middle of their lane
-
barriers or other road boundaries
The risk of an accident is increased in these situations.
The driver must pay attention to the traffic situation and maintain a safe distance at the side of the vehicle.
Depending on the situation and the trailer, SGA2 may issue a warning prematurely or not at all. In addition to maintaining clean sensors, maintain a safe distance from other vehicles and road users.
SGA2 notifications may be delayed, inactive, or interrupted. Be cautious and attentive in the following scenarios, as SGA2 may not operate as expected.
-
SGA2 may be inactive for a short duration after coupling; the ability to activate it is delayed.
-
SGA2 may be inactive for a short duration after pulling away from a loading dock.
-
During passenger-side turns, monitoring may become limited for the end of the trailer and the back corner or bumper. Extra attentiveness is required.
-
SGA2 may not detect objects within 6 inches of the passenger- or driver-side of the vehicle and trailer.
-
SGA2 may not detect on objects that are alongside a second trailer.
-
A false positive may occur when driving close to barriers or other solid boundaries. For example, driving through construction sites.
-
SGA2 may become inactive during prolonged driving alongside vehicles at the same speed or vehicles that are particularly long.
See an authorized dealer to have the function of the radar sensors checked if any of the following circumstances are true:
-
If the vehicle is involved in a severe accident.
-
If there is damage to the passenger- or driver-side footsteps.
-
If there is damage to either of the headlights or front of the vehicle.
-
If SGA2 malfunctions.
