Off-Road Mode
This vehicle may be equipped with a switch to activate off-road mode. This system is designed specifically for off-road use, such as driving on loose gravel or muddy terrain, and should not be used during regular on-road driving. Off-road mode can support vehicle performance by modifying the behavior of the Antilock Braking System (ABS). When engaged, off-road mode can create a buildup of material - such as dirt or snow - in front of the tires to reduce stopping distances. The performance improvement provided by this feature is dependent on terrain and driving scenario.
Engaging off-road mode automatically turns off Electronic Stability Control (ESC). This helps prevent unintended power reductions when aggressively climbing hills and turning. If left on, ESC might otherwise intervene and engage the brakes.
To activate off-road mode, press the switch, shown in Fig. . The switch illuminates solid red when off-road mode is engaged and a green telltale appears on the driver display, shown in Fig. , item 2. To disengage off-road mode, press the switch again. When off-road Mode is disengaged, a pop-up appears on the driver display, shown in Fig. .
Note: When the keyswitch is in the OFF position, off-road mode disengages.

Important: Always drive at safe speeds appropriate for terrain. While off-road mode assists with braking, it may also reduce steering effectiveness due to temporary sliding on loose surfaces. Driving too fast or without caution can cause a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of vehicle damage or personal injury.
Important: Do not drive on paved roads or highways with the off-road mode function activated. Upon moving onto an improved road surface, turn off-road mode off immediately. Leaving it on can prevent the antilock braking system (ABS) system from functioning as intended for braking events at speeds below 25 mph (40 km/h), which may lead to a loss of control and increase the risk of vehicle damage or personal injury.
When driving at speeds below 6 mph (10 km/h), the ABS allows the wheels to lock as needed. Between 6 - 25 mph (10 - 40 km/h), the ABS software is adjusted to permit brief wheel lockups lasting up to 0.5 seconds. When driving above 25 mph (40 km/h), the ABS controller functions in standard on-road mode.
A pop-up titled ‘ABS Off-Road Engaged, Disengage When On-road’, shown in Fig. , item 1, appears on the driver display if off-road mode is engaged and the vehicle speed exceeds 55 mph (88 km/h). The pop-up remains active until it is acknowledged by the driver, either by disengaging off-road mode or pressing the back button on the left-hand steering wheel switch pod. In this scenario, if the vehicle is equipped with electronic stability control (ESC), both the ‘ESC Disabled’ pop-up and ESC telltale will be triggered.
The following features are disabled when off-road mode is turned on:
-
electronic stability control (ESC)
-
hold function (HOLD)
-
hill start aid (HSA)
-
Detroit Assurance features (ACC, ABA, SGA)
